OctopusPro allows you to optimize your customer portal so it appears at the top of the search pages in the different search engines. This improves the quality and quantity of website traffic to your customer portal from search engines.

Page meta title
Writing a strong meta title is very important for your portal to rank in organic search. This is because search engines analyze titles to navigate the topic of your pages/portal and rank it accordingly.
Think of meta titles as the cards found in a library card catalog, the search engine resembles the information index, and the meta titles are the cards arranged within that index.
To write a good meta title, follow the below:
- Stick to a 55-character limit
- Make your keyword/keyphrase obvious
- Make your title interesting
- Include a relevant power word
Adding a meta title for your Customer Portal
OctopusPro gives you the option to change the meta title of your customer portal.
To add a meta title to your customer portal, navigate to Settings > Customer portal > General settings. Scroll down to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). There will be a field titled Page meta title that you can fill:

After writing a meta title for your customer portal, click on Save changes

The title you choose will appear in the name tag for the web page of your customer portal. The title is displayed on the browser tab to tell users what page they are on.

It will also appear as the title of the search result on search engines:

Page meta description
The page meta description should include a brief about your service and some keywords/keyphrases that describe what your business does. The meta description is a snippet of up to about 155 characters which summarizes your page’s content. Search engines show the meta description in search results mostly when the searched-for phrase is within the description, so optimizing the meta description is crucial for on-page SEO.
Adding a meta description for your customer portal
To add a meta title to your customer portal, navigate to Settings > Customer portal > General settings. Scroll down to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). There will be a field titled Page meta description that you can fill:

The meta description won’t appear anywhere in the customer portal. However, it will appear in the result page of search engines:
