Overview & benefits
When enabled, customers can see each fieldworker’s average star rating on their public fieldworker profile in the customer portal. This can help customers choose with confidence (where you allow preferred fieldworker selection), reduce uncertainty, and motivate teams to maintain high standards.
- Build trust by showing transparent performance signals
- Improve conversions by reducing hesitation for first-time customers
- Encourage service quality through accountability and recognition
- Support training by identifying patterns in feedback and ratings
Prerequisites
To display fieldworker star ratings on the customer portal, make sure the following are in place:
- Public fieldworker profiles are enabled so customers can access the Fieldworkers page and open individual profiles. (This is controlled via a separate Customer Portal flag.)
- You have customer ratings in the system. If you’re newly enabling ratings, fieldworker profiles may show no rating until customers submit reviews. Use the rating request workflows explained in How ratings are generated.
How to enable fieldworker star ratings
In the admin portal, go to: Settings > Customer Portal > Flags & Permissions
- Scroll to the Fieldworker Flags section.
- Enable: Display fieldworker star rating to customers
Recommended related flags (optional but commonly used):
- Display fieldworker list and make fieldworker profiles public (so customers can access the Fieldworkers page and profile pages)
- Display fieldworker date joined to customers (shows “Member since” on the profile)
- Display fieldworker working hours in fieldworker profile (useful for availability transparency)
How customers view star ratings
Once enabled, customers can view ratings from the customer portal as follows:
- Open your customer portal website.
- Click Fieldworkers from the top menu.
- Select a fieldworker to open their public profile.
- The star rating appears below the fieldworker’s name (when available).

If the star rating toggle is disabled, the rating will not appear on the fieldworker profile.
How ratings are generated (customer rating flow)
Fieldworker star ratings come from customer ratings submitted for completed bookings. Customers can rate a booking directly from the booking page in the customer portal when the relevant flag is enabled.
Enable customer booking ratings (recommended)
Go to Settings > Customer Portal > Flags & Permissions, then under Booking Flags enable: Allow customers to rate your bookings through the booking page.
What customers see
- On the booking view page, a Rate service button appears under the assigned fieldworker’s name.
- Customers can submit a star rating, add photos, and write comments about their experience.
Important: Customers can only rate a booking when:
- The booking status is Completed, and
- The invoice status is Closed
After a customer submits a rating, admin users receive a notification in the admin portal and can review the rating on the booking under the Customer Rating section, or via Feedback > Customer portal.

How to view, edit, or reset ratings (admin)
Admin users can manage ratings from within the booking record. This is useful if a rating was submitted in error or needs to be removed after review.
- Go to Bookings > All Bookings.
- Open the relevant booking.
- Scroll to the Customer Rating section.
- Use Actions to reset the rating (and where available, you can edit the star rating).
You can also configure your rating criteria (for example: Communication, Punctuality, Quality) using Rating Tags from: Settings > Communications > Feedback and Ratings.
Best practices
- Keep rating criteria short: Aim for 3–6 rating tags so customers complete reviews quickly.
- Automate review requests: Enable the rating request automation so customers are prompted after completion (recommended for consistent feedback volume).
- Use low ratings for service recovery: Follow up quickly when a low rating is received and document actions internally.
- Combine private + public reviews: Use OctopusPro’s internal ratings for performance improvement, and optionally invite happy customers to leave Google/Facebook reviews.
