Display Fieldworker Social Media Links on the Customer Portal

Display Fieldworker Social Media Links on the Customer Portal

OctopusPro lets you display your fieldworkers’ social media links on their public profiles in the Customer Portal. When enabled, customers will see social icons on each fieldworker profile and can click them to open the fieldworker’s social pages (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube).

This is useful if you want customers to learn more about the person providing the service—especially in relationship-based industries such as home services, wellness, coaching, consulting, and trades.

Benefits

  • Build trust faster: Customers can verify experience, reputation, and credentials.
  • Improve conversion: More confident customers are more likely to book.
  • Stronger brand presence: Your team’s professional profiles and content can reinforce your business brand.

How it works

  • You enable a Customer Portal flag to display social links on public fieldworker profiles.
  • Social links are saved per fieldworker under Personal details → Social networks.
  • On the Customer Portal, customers see icons (not raw URLs). Clicking an icon opens the saved link.
  • If a fieldworker has no social links saved, customers won’t see social icons for that profile.

Before you start

To show social icons to customers, fieldworker profiles must be visible on the Customer Portal.

  • Make sure your Customer Portal is set up and accessible.
  • Ensure your fieldworkers are configured correctly (name, photo, assigned services, etc.).
  • If customers can’t open fieldworker profiles, enable the Customer Portal option that displays the fieldworker list and makes fieldworker profiles public (in Customer Portal → Flags & Permissions).

Enable or disable fieldworker social media links

To show or hide fieldworker social media icons on the Customer Portal:

  1. Go to Settings → Customer Portal → Flags & Permissions.
  2. Scroll to the Fieldworker Flags section.
  3. Enable or disable Display fieldworker social networks links.

Result:

  • Enabled: social icons can appear on fieldworker profiles (if links are saved).
  • Disabled: social icons won’t be displayed to customers.

Where the links appear in the Customer Portal

When enabled, social icons appear on each public fieldworker profile in the Customer Portal. In the example below, icons show under the rating area on the profile page.

If the flag is disabled (or the fieldworker has no links saved), the icons will not appear:

Note: The portal label in your account may say “Fieldworkers”, “Technicians”, “Therapists”, “Team”, etc., depending on your industry configuration—functionality is the same.

Admins can manage social links for any fieldworker from the admin portal:

  1. From the left menu, open Fieldworkers.
  2. Select the fieldworker you want to update.
  3. Open Personal details.
  4. Scroll to Social networks.
  5. Select a social network from the dropdown, paste the full URL, then click Save.

To add another social account, repeat the steps—choose a network and paste its URL:

To remove a link, use the Delete (trash) icon next to the relevant entry.

If you allow fieldworkers to manage their own profiles, they can add/update social links from their fieldworker portal (web view):

  1. Fieldworker logs in to their account.
  2. Open My Account.
  3. Go to Personal details.
  4. Scroll down to Social networks.
  5. Select the network, add the URL, then click Save.

Best practices

  • Use professional accounts: Encourage staff to link business/professional profiles rather than personal ones.
  • Paste full URLs: Include https:// to avoid broken links (e.g., https://www.linkedin.com/in/yourname).
  • Keep it consistent: Ask fieldworkers to use the same display name/photo across platforms to reduce customer doubt.
  • Quality control: If you want admins to approve links, manage them centrally (admin workflow above).
  • Privacy: Only display what you’re comfortable making public; disable the flag if you want to keep profiles private.

Troubleshooting

  • Icons aren’t showing on the Customer Portal:
    • Confirm Display fieldworker social networks links is enabled in Customer Portal → Flags & Permissions.
    • Confirm the fieldworker has at least one link saved in Personal details → Social networks.
    • Confirm fieldworker profiles are public/visible on the Customer Portal (fieldworker list / public profiles must be enabled).
  • Link opens the wrong page or doesn’t load:
    • Re-check the URL for typos.
    • Make sure the social platform page is public and accessible (not private or restricted).
  • I want to show my business social icons in the portal header/footer (not fieldworker profiles):
    • Use the Customer Portal social media icon settings (separate feature).
